Well usually it's done just like the above poster said.  The user has
to set up port forwording for which ever application needs it.
However, there are applications that can work without the user needing
to forword his/her ports and that can be done with UPnP (universal plug
n play) which I believe is a Microsoft technology, correct me if I am
wrong, and it can be used for things like that.  As to how to actually
do it is still up in the air for me as I just started learning how to
do socket programming two days ago.  Good luck!
