As you progress thru these economies, each tends to give away the more primitive item for free. Chuck-E-Cheeses sells crappy pizza - the service - at cost, to get you to play their videogames while high on carbs and sugar. As programmers rise to become consultants, they pass thru the "infotainment" phase into an economy of transformation.
