Subj : Shift key status and ctrl-c

Hi. Can anyone help with the following? I need to be able to detect whether 
the shift key is pressed and also detect ctrl-c without the program 
terminating in a console based app compiled with BCC55.

I've tried everything I can think of and am at the end of my tether. Thanks.
