At one time Borland C++ was the current product.   Version 5.02 was the last 
version and was released in 1997.

Compiler development continued on with the C++ Builder compiler.  The free 
compiler is the set of command line tools  from version 5 of C++ Builder and 
is the version 5.5 that you mention.  C++ Builder continues to have command 
line tools as well as an IDE or Integrated Development Environment.  The 
current version of C++ builder is version 6.
