Thankyou for the suggestion. However, I am aware of these and use them! I would have forsaken the IDE some years back if I had not stumbled on these excellent tools. However, my reasons for going with a hand coded make file are only partly concerned with safety. I am looking to go beyond the Borland C compiler for the 32 bit windows code, and possibly develop a DOS 32bit version, (for which Open Watcom is a more logical option). Beyond that hand coded make files give me a feeling of greater control over what I am doing, and fit in to my general build environment, which is basically one great big batch file that takes about 10 minutes to run on my P4! regards DM .
