With the ubiquitous proliferation of increasingly sophisticated copying devices for CDs, paper docs, etc., it's often hard to tell the original from a clone. Also, some "used" software is being sold in violation of the licensing agreements. e.g. - If an original purchased version 4.52 was used as a qualification for an *upgrade* purchase of 5.02, then both versions remain covered under the original license. It is illegal to resell the 4.52 and keep the 5.02. *All* copies must be transferred to the new owner, along with a transfer of the license, and the original owner must destroy any/all copies of the product. Only if the 5.02 was acquired as a *new* purchase/product and not at an upgrade discount could the 4.52 be resold without affecting the license status of the 5.02 product. In the latter case there are two licenses purchased, in the former only one. Many customers seem to be under the mistaken impression that they have purchased the *product* itself, when in fact they have only purchased a *license* to possess and use the product. The product (media) and the license cannot legally be separated from each other. >I'd be interested in comparing the size of those files though Go to borland.public.attachments and look for a msg with the Subject: "BC++ 5.02 help file sizes." It has a ZIP file attachment with a dir listing from the CD. >It's a 2-disk set from Macmillan Software called "Borland C++ 5.0 >Programming Starter Kit Deluxe Edition". If I recall correctly, the Borland licence with that product doesn't allow (re)distribution of created apps or Borland DLLs. It was intended/licensed as a learning tool only, not as a "professional" development tool. >I also have Borland 4.5 ... >I'll load it up and take a look at the DOS reference manual if it's in >electronic format. I'm not sure if you're asking if the printed 5.0x manuals have more info than the 5.0x help files (yes), or if the printed 5.0x manuals have more info than the Online Books from 4.5x (don't know - probably some esp. if they have anything on the STL).
