Subj : Modal dialog box - how?

I want to create a modal dialog box that I can call in the
 middle of a routine to enter some data before the routine
 continues.
I can create a dialog box and set the check box to Modal, but it
doesn't seem to be modal and the program runs straight through
 without stopping.
Any ideas what I migh be doing wrong.
