Because your program is running in a loop. I don't remember if BC++5 came with a profiler. (version 3 did) If you have one, run it with your program to see where you are wasting time. You didn't say what type of program you are building, DOS, Windows GUI, Windows Console. If DOS, and you are sitting in a keyboard loop like this: while( !kbhit() ); You will be doing a whole lot of nothing but waste cpu time. .
