I don't disagree with what others have said about CBX, but to add some thoughts (from someone who has used it). CBX Personal is a free download which includes an IDE and the compiler from BCB6, so it is a step up in that sense from either BC++ 5 or the 5.5 commandline tools. I have also found that it offers some nice advantages for learning C++, since in the early stages most students produce console apps and just want to see the output immediately. With BCB, you have to do some extra work to get the console window to stay open, but with CBX the console output is directed to the message window when you run from the IDE - a very nice feature. It is also a good environment for debugging. Most of the bugs and issues people have found with the IDE are not noticeable in small projects. Can't hurt much to download it and try it out - you do get the latest Borland compiler and an IDE that is at least reasonable (with no RAD) at no cost. - Leo .
