Some comments on the previous suggestions: Josuttis - Very readable and a good intro and reference. (Probably the one to buy if you get only one book, but better to buy used and get several) Austern - Part I is an invaluable discussion of the STL from the viewpoint of why it works as it does. Understanding this gives a much better grounding for using the library properly. Meyers - Details, details, details. Surely you've read some of his other books and know how helpful they are. And just to add one more, though it is not entirely dedicated to STL: More Exceptional C++ by Herb Sutter - This guy's both more fun than any of the others and more into some of the nitty and gritty corners of the language, but save it until you have a good idea of how you think things work so that it can properly humble you by finding the holes in your understanding. Both this and the original are highly recommended, but this one has more on STL. - Leo .
