Subj : The Big 1-0 To : All From : "Dave" Date : Wed May 28 2003 05:59 pm HAPPY BIRTHDAY! ----------------- The Hard Drive Cafe turns 10 years old in June! Hard to believe, but the 'ole girl has been around for 10 years. It first went 'online' in June 1993 as a 4 node dialup board known then as "Skid Row BBS", running WWIV Software. Between 1995 & 1997, I 'experimented' with telnet operations utilizing the OS/2 Warp operating system with minimal activity, but hey, who the hell used the Internet in 1995? :) In October 1996 the BBS changed location and lost virtually all its dialup users. In November 1997, I abandoned dialup service for fulltime, telnet only access running an 8 node BBS, still using WWIV Software, renamed "The Hard Drive Cafe". I was one of the first full-time telnet boards on the Internet and experienced immediate success! In February, 2001, I switched to Synchronet BBS Software, for various reasons, increased available nodes to 10, and BBS activity soared even higher. In 5 1/2 years of fulltime telnet operation, I have logged over 181,000 calls, currently averaging 120 calls per day... I would like to thank Tony Buser for getting me 'into' bbs-ing back in early 1993, with an old 1200 baud modem, and showing me 'the ropes' of the joy of sysoping... and more importantly, I'd like to thank the hundreds of friends who call my BBS on a regular basis.... I'll keep running my board as long as I'm able to breathe. Thanks, Dave ----- To start press any key.
