TW might be there with a sensible answer every now and then > :-) I've been into bbsing now since about spring/summer of 1993, almost continuously, but I will still take any help offered from any knowledgeable source. ;) Seriously, The Castle's Dungeon BBS started in 1993 as HostPlus running under Telix, then a few months later, after exploring way too many BBS software options, it grew up and ran under QuickBBS for a few years, then around 1995 it again changed over to Falken for about 6 months or so before it's most expensive growing pain when it switched to WorldGroup (what used to be MajorBBS) in late 1995 and then I had to shut down in 1998... I'm now trying to come back online but am having hardware troubles and internet troubles. The hardware troubles simply require switching to something Windows based, but Worldgroups is just too damn expensive to upgrade and thus Synchronet is looking very attractive... The internet troubles are another matter altogether. I'm running on comcast and thus have obtained a DNS address via no-ip.com of tcdbbs.zapto.org but don't seem to be able to connect to my machine from anywhere outside the comcast network, though I am accessible to any other machine on my own network via the zapto address or a direct IP of 192.168.1.50 which isn't routable.... As for Synrchonet itself, it seems a little bland after years under Worldgroup (no global actions, less specialized node interaction/games/etc, very different sysop/staff options, etc...) but very capable and configurable. I have had an issue with the Spy command, as explained earlier, and with some preinstalled shells not being preinstalled (such as the MajorBBS shell, for an example, being available to users to select but not having a file to support it...), and the documentation being a little fuzzy for version 3.x, but otherwise it doesn't look bad thus far. ...Once again, I'll take all suggestions and try most reasonable offered courses.... -=Conner=- .
