Not necessarily. LORD's author could allow 32-bit LORD to support 16-bit IGMs thru a variety of means (fossil emulation is one method, clever batch file usage that loads a 3rd-party fossil driver is another) >I can understand why people use cracks for software, especially doors. $15 >for a door, only to have to pay AGAIN for the next version is insane for >something like a doorgame. We already had this discussion on DoveNet last year. If you'll recall, I asked you, "Name ONE door author that charges for upgrades!" And you weren't able to name one. Because there aren't any. >I understand that the authors put alot of time >into it, but if the prices were lowered, more people would buy. How about >some other packages too? For example: >$5 for the door and $3 for every aditional upgrade >*or* >$30 for the door and unlimited upgrades 99% of the doors out there cost $25 or less, and give you unlimited upgrades. I'm afraid that you simply haven't the slightest idea what you're talking about. >I also think that for doors, crippling them if they are unregistered is >stupid. I think there should just be a screen that comes up every so often >in the game that says: >"Did you know this door is unregistered? Please have your Sysop register >the door, and this message will go away!" Nag-ware is just another form of crippling, as it's very hard to enjoy a game that constantly nags you! >Also another idea, is how about a multipul Sysop registration so that Sysops >can work together to register the door for all of them? Shrug, some door authors do this (Seth Able used to do this!) and others don't, it's the door authors choice. I agree discount schemes are nice; for example, I charge less for Tournament Trivia when sysops (or their users) contribute to the door by sending new trivia questions. Sysops who send a *lot* of trivia questions get the game for free. I think this sort of "contribution-ware" model makes sense -- help out with the game and get it really cheap or free. >What software do you make, anyways? Please visit http://www.doormud.com for info on my doors. For my latest door, please see the message I posted in this newsgroup yesterday announcing its release :) .
