Subj : where did it all go? To : alt.bbs.allsysop From : "Chris Martin" Date : Sat Jul 12 2003 11:46 am FamilyNet Newsgate Once upon a time, out on MARS. While reading the mail, wispering this: DM> > R> Shrug, a lot of sysops run BBS's on 98/ME with a lot of other server DM> > R> side, without having any qualms. Sounds like you might just be pick DM> > DM> > In my experience, as well as all my other friends experiences with 98/M DM> > all it does is crash, and they've upgraded or plan on upgrading to 2k a DM> > fast as humanly possible. DM> DM> I run 5 of my BBS nodes on Win98 (rob.synchro.net), and it works great and DM> runs the old stubborn DOS doors (like BRE) very fast. Since that's DM> all it does, never have to reboot it. TW> Then concider yourself lucky. When i was running Win98, i'd have to reboot TW> about 5 times a day. Absolutely, W98 would run the BBS fairly well, but when you tries to add anything else (tape backup scheduler, etc) it wouldn't stay up any longer than about 8 hours. Needless to say, I switched to Warp3 (OS/2) and have been extremely happy since. Runs the BBS (multi-node), the tape scheduler, lots of internal stuff and my local sessions (non-bbs) with nary a hitch. Only using a 486dx4-100 with 64 M memory...
