Well, at least you were lucky enough to get some of your stuff back.  I
did a dummy, was over extended sleep wise, and was putting a nice
new 80 gig drive into my BBS machine <which also housed my MP3
collection.  Wasn't paying attention, and when the system booted, went
to the disk management in WinXP, one drive wasn't mounted, so, clicked
on it, and did a quick NTFS format on it. About that time I looked a bit
closer and saw the size of the drive... 120gig... not 80... I said OH
SHIT, tried to stop the format, which finished about the time I said Oh
shit... I tried every recovery utility/program I could find, and not one
could unformat it.  I lost over 11,000 mp3's in the time it took to say
Oh Shit.  No backup...  No copies... I now have a very modest 1200+
mp3's, growing daily... Of course, the majority of them are in the
320kbps range now, but that still doesn't make me feel any better.  :(
I'm dreading having to pull out my CD's and start ripping them all
again... That collection was "Years" in the making.
