Well, Linux 2.6 is not exactly recommended for production use, either. It's 
just a question of what you consider as being "stable". Even some Linux 
distributions (e.g. Debian) have very special ideas of what is "stable".

P.S.: I think FBSD 5.2 will be officially recommended for server use, and it 
won't be long until it's ready.
