Subj : Hello? To : Lawrence Garvin From : Steve Quarrella Date : Fri Oct 13 2000 03:50 am SQ>> Having a fun time with Solaris 8 this afternoon. During the SQ>> install, nothing I did would convince it to like my DNS SQ>> information. All the servers and information were correct, As it turned out, I figured out the problem, but I don't understand WHY it was a problem. I needed to go put an A record into our in-house DNS server for my test machine. OK, fine, but what if I didn't have an in-house DNS server? Did I really have to call the folks who host our DNS and say "Give me an A record?" That can't be right at all, so what am I overlooking? lg> I have a fair amount of experience with DNS, Steve; and some lg> on Solaris, too. Although it's Solaris 2.x experience. That's just fine. One of the things I've learned is that the 7 and 8 refers to 2.7 and 2.8. So, the 2.6 and earlier reference material that I have on hand has actually been useful. lg> Nonetheless, if there's anything I can offer to help.. fire a lg> message my way. Appreciate it. It's good to see you back, and I hope things are a bit nicer 'round 106 these days. :-) lg> In fact.. if you have any messages in your syslog.. send 'em lg> over to the email below and I'd be happy to take a look. Well now you're asking the tough questions. Where do I go to view that? For a guy who was pretty comfortable with command-line interfaces just a few years ago, I admit that I'm spoiled by the ol' Start button. But not too much. :-) --- * Origin: Il Vaticano * Lewisville, TX (1:393/9005.13) .
