I really have no idea what "horse's for courses" means. The people who preassemble computers would save you the time to return hardware that isn't working, yet you prefer to build your own computers? CA>> btw: I really am a person who would do what you suggest if CA>> I was convinced that #1 LINUX was what I needed here, #2 CA>> LINUX was being corrupted by those who compile the CA>> binaries, #3 the necessary source code and hardware were CA>> made available to me for whatever length of time I CA>> required to _complete_ the task. RT> One: you decide for yourself; Yes, of course, that's a given. RT> Two: There are advantages to compiling your own other than RT> not trusting those who "normaly compile the binaries, there RT> are a number of "optimizations one can do, which are of RT> value or might be needed depending on your hardware needs. This would seem to be a grabber for a guy who builds his own computer systems using parts, yet it seems it is not? RT> Three: As for availability of source, if that bothers you, RT> download it and write it to CD-ROM, no hassle. Before there were CD's being made and sold with software the maker did not author there were `users groups' and clubs that would sell softare on disks at cost. Of course before the bloat they FIT on disks. ;-) Those groups seem to have vanished once the CD peddlers appeared. > > , , > o/ Charles.Angelich \o , > <| |> __o/ > / > USA, MI < \ __\__ ___ * ATP/16bit 2.31 * ....
