Well, I believe that the labourer is worth his hire, and the above save me a great deal of time and expense in doing exacly what they do to build my own Linux system, which is what you refer to as an extreme, no way you can have your cake and eat it, way the cookie crumbles, or if you prefer it is a case of horse's for courses. One: you decide for yourself; Two: There are advantages to compiling your own other than not trusting those who "normaly compile the binaries, there are a number of "optimizations one can do, which are of value or might be needed depending on your hardware needs.
