Roy, the best reason that I can offer for trying different versions and flavors 
is to have the practical appreciation for what the differences are.

Each flavor, and even within flavors each version(s), have their own quirks and 
unique characteristics.

To put this in terms of an analogy.. a "*nix" person who is only familiar with 
one or two products is kind of like a food critic who only eats Italian and 
Mexican. :-)
