There are RJT> probably several I could get a hold of if I wanted to... Well, since I work almost every day on a SunOS 5.2 which lives on a solaris/sparc machine, I can tell you why: it remains up. I have seen Linux machines grinding to a halt under the load (ever seen top reporting a charge of 32 ?), but the solaris machine NEVER. My only gripe with solaris is the price of the hardware. To give you an idea, one of the solaris machine I work on (in production) has 26 processors and 7 gigas of ram. I'll let you imagine the price :-) Now, our customer in that config realized that he could make substantial savings by replacing that machine by 6 or 7 quadri processor based on the latest intel (whatever it is called this week, I'l say pentium+++ for the sake of easyness) and balancing the load with some queing system like NQS. The only thing that has to be done before anything else is to compile and install bash instead of their dreadful default korn shell :-) Francois Thunus Too much shareware, not enough registration $$$. 2:270/25.2@fidonet | Views expressed here francois(at)TeleMatique(dot)org | are strictly my own. http://www.telematique.org/ft | (unless otherwise stated) --- FMailX 1.48b * Origin: Xara Sto Pragma !
