Subj : FreeBSD 4.3-RC buffer issue To : Brad Laue From : Tobias Ernst Date : Sun Apr 15 2001 06:04 am Hallo Brad! BL> Sure - it's in /usr/ports/security/nmap Oh, I only searched in net :-). Well, I cannot reproduce your problem. Probably it depends on the low-level NIC driver you are using. Here is what I get when using tun0 (user level ppp with pppoe which in turn is bound on a ed0 ne2000-type card): root@romulus /usr/ports/security/nmap # nmap -sS -vvv -O 129.69.74.65 Starting nmap V. 2.53 by fyodor@insecure.org ( www.insecure.org/nmap/ ) Host lilapause.physcip.uni-stuttgart.de (129.69.74.65) appears to be up ... good .. Initiating SYN half-open stealth scan against lilapause.physcip.uni-stuttgart.de (129.69.74.65) Adding TCP port 139 (state open). Adding TCP port 22 (state open). Adding TCP port 113 (state open). Adding TCP port 487 (state open). and so forth. Works perfectly. BTW, for all that want to try it, DON'T use the IP/hostname I have used above. You'll get chased down if you scan that machine without announcing it previously ... :-> And here is what I get when doing it in my local LAN over a fxp0 (Intel EtherPro) card: root@romulus ~ # nmap -sS -vvv -O 192.168.1.2 Starting nmap V. 2.53 by fyodor@insecure.org ( www.insecure.org/nmap/ ) Host remus.bland.fido.de (192.168.1.2) appears to be up ... good. Initiating SYN half-open stealth scan against remus.bland.fido.de (192.168.1.2) Adding TCP port 23 (state open). Adding TCP port 53 (state open). Adding TCP port 111 (state open). Adding TCP port 21 (state open). sendto in send_tcp_raw: sendto(3, packet, 40, 0, 192.168.1.2, 16) => Permission denied Sleeping 15 seconds then retrying I am not sure at all what this error means, I am not an experienced nmap user. This error seems to continue ad inifinitum with increasing sleep intervals. Viele Gre, Tobias --- Msged/2 TE 06 (pre) * Origin: www.physcip.uni-stuttgart.de/tobi/projects.html (2:2476/418) .
