Wait... is this a BLANK CD-R????

No wonder... reading from a BLANK CD-R would be just like reading from 
/dev/null -- presuming it would actually read. My sincere hope would be that 
the device driver would return a read error on the first sector of the CD-R.

Uh... are you planning to write more than 650MB to the CD-R?
