The previous/next message fields in the .Msg header are 2 bytes long. Same with the pointers in the LastRead file. That would make the maximum message number 32767 or 65535 depending on how the message number variable is declared, signed or unsigned. I don't think there should be any Y2K problems with message renumbering programs for .Msg areas since they really don't have to touch the message itself except for the prev/next pointers. Its more a matter of renaming the files. If the message threads get trashed, you can always use Squish to rebuild them: SQUISH LINK -F I looked around and found this little gem in my BBS archives... RNUM.EXE 6,832 10/18/1992 12:32p When running it from the DOS prompt with no command line paramaters you get: Program RNUM renumbers the MSG files in a sub- directory. Just supply the pathspec (of the directory) on the command line. Max msgs = 16384 Highest msg # = 65535. Usage: RNUM l:\netmsg Uses standard DOS: will work with large partitions.
