Subj : Compression question To : Bo Simonsen From : Bob Jones Date : Fri Jul 11 2003 06:03 pm BS> What does Confmail has to do with Squish (something i might have missed). CONFMAIL is one of the early mail mashers. I don't think it was part of the original fido and fidonet software (actual code by Tom Jennins), but it was one of the early available mail tosssers, and used *.msg only. Then OMM came along as part of Opus. And then Squish came along with Maximus. Squish claimed at the time to use the same route.cfg file that CONFMAIL (or was it also OMMM) used. I found that wasn't 100% true..... [Yes, at one time I *did* have fido and fidonet software loaded and attempted to run on an old HeathKit H-100 -- Under Z-DOS (MS-DOS) version 1 or 2, using the FOSSIL for the old H-100. I ended up using a different BBS package at that time. This was back when the nodelist was one dimentional and allowed a maximum of about 255 entries. My hard disk crashed before I could investigate further -- and in the mean time, Fidonet had shut down adding nodes so that they could introduce the two (or was it three) d nodelist format -- which is when the 255 node limit was removed.... When I finally got back to hardware that I could use Fidonet with (with appropriate resources) fidonet was up to three dimentional nodelists, and I found that my area already had a local net..... The first fidonet node I had (local) access to (#56, if I remember the number right -- run out of the local HeathKit store) also went down about the time fidonet went from 1-D to 2-D.] Take care.....
