Subj : Tips & Tricks To : Keith Greenwood From : Patrick Vittori Date : Fri Sep 30 2005 03:01 pm Afternoon Keith, KG> Well, now that we've established a few places that have the Tradewars 2002 KG> game up and running, would anybody care to discuss tips, tricks or Heh, add my system to your list. I run 3 games here. Novice: 5k sectors, new player planet, Stardock location known, Intermediate: 10k sectors, no planet, Stardock location known, and an Advanced game of 15k sectors, no planet and location of Stardock is unknown. You can find them via telnet at: shinnbbs.sytes.net. BTW, local display is off at all times. I may be the Sop and play the game, but I take NO unfair advantages of other players. KG> strategies? Stay alive is a good one. I tend to play evil since I hate to save up creds only to have the Feds suck my pockets dry w/ taxes when I needed them for shields, holds, or fighters. KG> really hot. Now I find myself at a few local boards playing with a KG> limited number of people, I'd like to get in on a large game but not until KG> I get some skills. Trick 1: Keep your figs and shields at odd numbers. Why? Ever try to get that neat ship you need only to blow it up cause you've beaten the fighter count down to 1 and -your- combat odds are higher than the alien/evil dude's? Trying to hit 1 Fig is like trying to throw cotton balls. It can be done, but you have a hard time doing it. :) So, if you failed to make it so safe ground before your turns run out your ship is a bit harder to capture by an opponent. Sure, you may wake up in an escape pod, but the opponent didn't profit much off your hard work. They either blew up your ship or they exhausted more fighters than the points were worth (unless you were like EXTREEEEMLY good. :) Trick 2: If you are in a game with limited moves its best to invest in a Marauder to do your port searching. Finding the BBS/BSB combos costs you less in the movement area (2 moves/sector vs a Merc's 3 :) and they're cheaper on the pocketbook if you have to replace one. I have more tips somewhere in this ol' greying head (I like you have 10+ yrs of playing), but none want to float to the forefront at the moment and my lunch break is about over (self-employed, but tied to a schedule. :/ ). Hope to chat more w/ you later. Patrick --- Ezycom V2.01b006 00F90258 * Origin: The Shaman's Inn, Quartzsite, Az USA (1:123/500.729) .
