Subj : Re: Re:2002 TW AWARDS To : All From : Xide Date : Thu Jan 09 2003 10:31 pm Something alot of people forget is that not all the awards are for players... While its definitely nice to get the ego boost that goes with a player award, I've always felt that its the non-player awards that actually carry true meaning. Awards such as best TWGS, best sysop, and the website and helper awards are very much the only feedback some people get from their work. I know that the first time my helper was nominated for an award I was over the moon - and it was one of the things that really got me stuck into working on it. Sure, awards can be negative too.. theres nothing like spending so much time building games and hosting your TWGS and not even getting nominated, but what about the people and products that DO get recognised? Whats the point in working so hard to support a community that never voices its appeciation? I think the awards are more than just tradition and flamewars - they keep the active members of this community functioning. >From a message by SLG about Re:2002 TW AWARDS: > I'm no sure having awards is all that important anyway.. what do they really mean? last years awards had it's problems yes.. and not due to anything gypsy did.... With the exception of silver dragon, does any one really put a lot of value on these awards or flash them around to prove that they are indeed the best blue or red? I don't sign my messages SLG, 2nd place most improved yada yada yada...I don't see anyone flashing their tw award like it was badge of acceptance or greatness...or even associating themselves with the awards they've won With the tw league up and running couldn't one get an Idea of who the better players are by looking at the rankings? Do awards really paint the correct picture of who is the best at anything? Many of us felt that awards were being given away based on popularity hence the fact that players never heard of, were winning awards... if that's true, then where is the value in the awards themselves? for example...Does prestone really need to know h'es the best ceo or that kemper is the best killer or that res is the best smack talker? If you've played the game you know what these players abilities are... If your disliked by the community, what are your chances of getting votes even if you are the best at something... I think awards are really not that important... as for the better players, you know who they are by exp or word of mouth, you know the best server/sysop by their popularity/reputation etc... awards for the most part i think are moot ...... --- FEddy 1.4.03/modPHX * Origin: http://www.twgs.org -- THE Trade Wars web forum!
