Subj : Re: Re:Releasing Files... To : All From : traitor Date : Wed Jan 08 2003 08:22 pm Nod. I have a huge problem with either wrong edits being posted, or changes 1/2 way into a game. As a player, I'd want him to release all the edits at some point if I were playing in the game. If for no other reason than to see what I may have missed. Personally, I think the day after the game opens is the ideal time to release the edits. It's a nice comprimise between releasing them early, and never releasing them. In any game where the sysop changes anything but the turns and number of sectors, I wouldn't expect the next game to look the same. I would expect the sysop to take a look at what worked and what didn't, and try to make positive changes for the next game. (Personally, I'd be a total uncaring, hands-off, SOB of a sysop. My stock response to players would be something like: "Yeah, yeah, yeah...quit yer bitchin', I hear you. I'll look into fixing that issue next bang. In the meantime, LEARN to DEAL with it, or QUIT, or convince EVERYONE ELSE to QUIT, so I can fix it that much sooner." That attitude is just one of the many reasons I don't run my own TWGS... :D However, I've been considering asking somone if they'd let me create a few games on their board...(I just want to create the settings/mods, not actually sysop them...) just so I could see what people would do with the kind of edits I've been coming up with lately...) -Traitor >From a message by <> about Re:Releasing Files...: > the "T-Edit Cheat" thing doesnt happen until it's found out that the op has made edits(errors) and told them to someone privately .. I find a big problem with "wrong edits" also being posted .. It's def up to the op .. but the op needs to release the edits at the end of the game and the op doesnt need to change an edit after the game has started.. I think that edits being released after the game has played and is over is something that's important BECAUSE alot of edits are based on previous edits ... those corps who log the edits (planet + ship + game) might have a general idea of how the game will be set up next year .. ----- Original Message ----- From: "traitor" To: Sent: Wednesday, January 08, 2003 11:28 PM Subject: [twgsdotorg] Releasing Files... > > Silver, > I don't know if this was covered already...it may be buried in one of the other posts... > > I know you are planning on distributing the files to a neutral party just prior to the game opening. It gives the newer players a chance to look for things they might have missed. It allows everyone who's interested a chance to test ideas and strategies. It protects you from critics who shout "T-EDITING CHEATER SYSOP!!" the second some smart corp. does something they can't figure out. It allows people like me who don't play in tournaments an opportunity to see if I can figure out the "hidden winner strategy" before those who are playing do. :-) > > Anyway, look at the bright side...at least they aren't bitching about the server rules at the moment... :P > > Good Luck Silver! > -Traitor > visit www.tw-cabal.com > --- FEddy 1.4.03/modPHX * Origin: http://www.twgs.org -- THE Trade Wars web forum!
