Subj : 10 net To : ED VANCE From : TOM WALKER Date : Thu Sep 01 2005 08:13 am EV>TW> Your Modem has been upgraded I suspect. USR does offer a FREE upgrade EV>TW> to v.92 for the owners of the White external sporsters and several EV>TW> other models. EV>Hi Tom, EV>I guess my white modem was upgraded at the factory before it was shipped EV>to the computer store that I ordered it from. It could have been. Then it would have has a Sticker on the box saying v.92 I wasn't thinking about those as the most of White 56K couriers were v.90 EV>TW>I had Both Models myself. I sent to White v.90 off to a friend and stil EV>TW>have the Balck sporster. In fact it is stil in the box having never been EV>TW>used. But as another has already said I am holding it in reserve in case EV>TW>my old USR Courier dies. And at some $300 PLUS for a new one thast makes EV>TW>it something I cannot afford. EV>$300+!, that is a lot of dough. The Couriers always were expensive. They are the Cadaliac of the Modems some think. I have had three of them but I bought them from Sysops after they upgraded to the latest and greatest at the time. EV>I paid $100 US for my 56k Sportster. EV>A month later I saw them in the Wal-Mart store for $90+. :-( EV>Those were still white ones. They still run in that ball park. I find the $50 "Creative" and "Best Data" Modems work just as good though if one wants an External Serial Hardware Modem. I do miss the Loud Sound possable with the Courier/Sporsters though. Heariong getting a little dim and I cannot hear my External Creative at all when it is negotating. --- þ SLMR 2.1a þ This note from El Cajon California USA * Origin: Try Our Web Based QWK: DOCSPLACE.ORG (1:123/140) .
