Subj : KNOPPIX 3.9 last CD To : TOM WALKER From : CHARLES ANGELICH Date : Mon Jul 25 2005 11:45 pm 123c6c5ac06e tech Hello Tom - WC>>>> I've no problems so far with Knoppix at all. sorry WC>>>> you've not shared that good fortune. TW>>> Wel lit is HIGHLY overated as far as it's use by the TW>>> LINUX novice. CA>> Any version of windows would perplex a first-time computer CA>> user. Every new version of windows brings out the 'stupid CA>> questions' list here on FIDO. The more experienced are CA>> happy campers until something won't set itself up using a CA>> 'wizard' and then there are the times the entire windows CA>> OS vanishes and the machine won't even boot. TW> Adn that is a problem. WHY was the Apple Lisa a better TW> computer for the novice then Windows has EVER been?? Tehg TW> first tiem I even say a GUI was o nthe Apple Lisa. And TW> within Minutes(little overstating) I was comfortable. I never used or even saw a LISA. I did have an APPLE II+ though. If the LISA followed the prevailing philosophy of the APPLE computer then I would say it was the consistency that made the difference. TW> As a comparision all Win versions since WFWG have been over TW> complicated and confusing. For me it has been the lack of consistency. Changing the icons (for instance) was totally unnecessary and confusing each time Microsoft has done this to me. The 'updating' of icons and toolbars only adds to the learning curve with no advantage to the average user. TW> Blus somewhat Disaster prone. Customers are Microsoft's beta testers - always have been. > > , , > o/ Charles.Angelich \o , > <| |> __o/ > / > USA, MI < \ __\__ --- * ATP/16bit 2.31 * ....
