Subj : KNOPPIX 3.9 last CD To : TOM WALKER From : THURSTON ACKERMAN Date : Mon Jul 25 2005 12:13 am TW>WC>-> Actualy the BIOS just looks at a DVD drive as just another IDE device. TW>WC>-> Al lthe recognition comes with the OS and other software. TW>WC>-> IF the software is avaiable the DVD should work. TW>WC>-> I don't follow LINUX al lthat close so don't know what advances they TW>WC>-> have amde on playing movie DVD's, which was a problem some years back. TW>WC>-> I would expect NO problem with Data DVD's. TW>WC>I've no problems so far with Knoppix at all. TW>WC>sorry you've not shared that good fortune. TW>Wel lit is HIGHLY overated as far as it's use by the LINUX novice. And I TW>don't understand why a "REAL" LINUX fan wouild even use it. Isin't it an TW>Insult to their Intelegence?? That may well be your experience with it Tom. My favored use of KNOOPIC live cd is to regain control of mess-dos/windose systems that have been corrupted by defragging HDs and/or maintainance stuff. I find the Simply-MEPIS live cd linux O/S distro much more usefull in familarizing myself with linux, and very good support.
