Subj : Battery Size Trivia To : ROY J. TELLASON From : TOM WALKER Date : Sat Jun 25 2005 04:42 pm RJT> TW> I had inadvertently left out the "N" battery. It is a popular one RJT> TW> for Pocket Pagers. But it is of reliatiavely recent introduction RJT> TW> compaired to that "A", "C", "D" series of cells. RJT>I remember running into it way back in 1974, so it ain't that recent... But I don't recall them in 1944 RJT> TW> A quick check of The Radio Shack Web site shows that they omnl;y RJT> TW> carry teh Alkaline "N" battereis under cat # 23-023 RJT> TW> But NiCAD and NiMH rechargable "N" batteries are avaialble from RJT> TW> other sources. The Standard "N" cell is 11.5 MM Diameter and 28 MM RJT> TW> tall. There are two variations. The 1/3 "N" at 10.8 MM Tall and the RJT> TW> 4/3 "N" at 44.5 MM Tall. RJT>And then there's one that's roughly the same size as the N cell but puts ou RJT>12V! BUT that WOULD not "By Definitioon" be a "N" Cell, but simply a 12 Volt Battery. ALL the cells in the series I am talking about, A, AA, AAA, AAAA, SC, C, D, F, Super F, G, J, N, 6 all have a nominal voltatge of 1.2 to 1.5 volts depending on their Chemical Composition. They are individula Cells. Something with 12 volts, even if it was close to the N cell size, would not be an "N" CELL. But a stack of cells, most likely without any official designations, to make up the 12 volt stack. --- þ SLMR 2.1a þ This note from El Cajon California USA * Origin: Try Our Web Based QWK: DOCSPLACE.ORG (1:123/140) .
