Subj : Battery Size Trivia To : ROY J. TELLASON From : TOM WALKER Date : Sat Jun 18 2005 11:06 am RJT> TW> batteries. They are in Increasing size order, AAAA, AAA, AA, A, RJT> TW> SC(Sub C, C, D, F, Super F, G, J, and #6 RJT>I've also seen Sub-C designated as "Cs". And now that you mention that "#6 RJT>remember that's what those big ones were. I wonder what happened to #1 thr RJT>#5? Some C's are called Wrongly sub "C" becasue they are 1/2, 1/3 etc. BUT there is a Standard Sub C catogeory that is a 26 X 46 MM battery. It comes in height veriations of 1/2, 3/5, 2/3, and 5/4. The Sub C is a 23 X 43 Battery with varaitions in height of 1/2, 2/3, 4/5, 5/4, and 4/3. RJT> TW> I also found out some other interesting Size Data. RJT> TW> There are 7 Variations(same Diameter shorter Height) of the "AAAA" RJT> TW> Battery, 20 Variations of the "AAA" battery, 9 Variations of the RJT> TW> "AA" Battery, 7 Variations of the "A" battery, 7 Variations of the RJT> TW> Sub "C" battery, 4 Variations of the "C" Battery, and 4 Variations RJT> TW> of the "D" battery. RJT>My experience is that those are given as fractions, like "1/2C" or "2/3Cs" RJT>similar. Is this what you were bumping into? Thatio s correct. RJT> TW> Some sizes also come in "Flat" Versions, Same MaH as it's counter RJT> TW> part except for a rectangular shape instead of round RJT>Rectangular packages take up less room for the same amount of volume, but RJT>probably cost more to produce. Was that indicated in the prices for these? Definatly so. Typicaly about Three times more. RJT>I was astounded last night, while scrapping some parts off boards, to pul RJT>one item that turned out to be a lithium battery -- roughly the same diamet RJT>as a AA but only about 7/16" long, and it had tabs welded to it to mount t RJT>the board -- and it still tested good! This was off a board that came out RJT>an old terminal that i scrapped that had been sitting in storage for some RJT>years... RJT>Got any particularly good sources of battery info? Only general basic information. and then mostly NiCAD, NiMH amd Lithium. it is the WEeb site www.powerstream.com. They are a wholesale buyer of battereis from China. On the Left side of their main page check click on the link to "Technical Recources". Very enlightening without going into "Brain Overload". IF one wants to get more detailed information there is tons of Papers etc on the Net. Just do a Search for what you want. --- þ SLMR 2.1a þ This note from El Cajon California USA * Origin: Try Our Web Based QWK: DOCSPLACE.ORG (1:123/140) .
