Subj : cleaning old 78 vinyls ? To : TOM WALKER From : WAYNE CHIRNSIDE Date : Wed Jun 15 2005 05:35 pm -> WC>-> Temps got to 90F and over 70 humitity today, so after -> WC>-> yard chores I spent the rest of the day in our naturally -> WC>-> air conditioned basement ( Wayne will recognize this as -> WC>-> the "celler" in our 1800s home 8-). After transplanting -> WC>-> some tomato seedings; fixing a couple chairs and fans; -> WC>-> I found a small carton of what appears to be some classic -> WC>-> 78 vinyl records that has collected some yuck. -> WC>-> Several of you all have discussed copying old recordings so -> WC>-> I am hopeing you will be able to advise me how to best clean -> WC>-> these records before I attempt playing and copying (some -> WC>-> other very hot day 8-( please. -> WC>At a guess a mild diluted dishwashing detergent -> WC>and lint free cloth but that's just a guess. -> I don't know abput Artifiucal Drying. Seems to me the Smart Move would -> be "Air Movement" Drying in a controled Temperature and Humidity -> enviroment.. Like an Air Conditioned room. Makes since to me however in that case I'd make the last rince distilled water as contaminants would coincentrate on drying borders. BTW I used to copy my vinyl LP onto reel top reel tape playing them through once than returned the LP's to their sleeves. --- Platinum Xpress/Win/WINServer v3.0pr5 * Origin: Try Our Web Based QWK: DOCSPLACE.ORG (1:123/140) .
