Subj : Battery Trivia To : MIKE ROSS From : TOM WALKER Date : Tue Jun 14 2005 12:27 pm MR> MM> My Daughter's '89 Olds Cutlass Ciera has the same setup with the V-6 MR> MM> engine and three double-ended coils. MR>Some types of electronic ignition fire more than once to better MR>control the burn and to ensure there are no misses. For example one MR>type might fire 2 very rapid bursts each time the cylinder is at the MR>right angle position. Has anyone here heard mention of piezo devices MR>being used to produce the spark energy instead of the usual coil? MSD made the "Multi-Strike" Ignition units popular amongst teh Hot Rod group. AND it works. In the days before CAT Converters the Very lean mixtures that were required to meet some SMOG requirements, especialy in California, particualrly had a problem with Misfiring. I would doubt any real advantage on Modern computer Controlleed Engines. I sispect compaired to the present system of using one coil per pair of Cylindrs or the SAAB system of using One Coil at each spark plug that the Piezo system would be far too complex. And also being very mechanical would not be as Reliable. --- þ SLMR 2.1a þ This note from El Cajon California USA * Origin: Try Our Web Based QWK: DOCSPLACE.ORG (1:123/140) .
