I just took a look at a 2 1/2 to Laptop Drive to a Standard IDE cable
 adapter I have.

IT looks like the Activity light comes off pin 20.
The one on the same row but the opposite end of the IDE connector from
Pin 1

The circuit is a feed off the + wire of the drive power connector, going
through a resistor to the + lead of the LED with the - lead of the LED
going to pin 20 on the IDE connector.
