It must be on one of the Cable wires as | TW> otherwise I would not think the Light on the External USB Cases would I took a peek inside one of the Mobile Docking trays I have (they have activity lights) and they tap off of either Pin 1 OR the pin vertically adjacent to it (:) then thru a 100 ohm resistor then to an onboard IC then another resistor then the LED.
