The use of a catalyst, which we also used to use in the Missile and other HTP activated engines, is to rapidly release the "loose" Oxygen atoms from the H202. That process is so active that during the release process the H20 being left behind becomes steam, usually at temperatures between 200 and 500 C. It's a purely catalytic action Tom. All that catalyst does is to speed up the decay rate of the H2O2 to leave behind H2O. A helluvalot of heat is generated when ripping atoms from molecules to produce other molecules.
