PARTMINER PULSE Weekly component alerts and market intelligence March 28, 2001 In this week's issue: - End-of-quarter opportunity - More than you wanted to know about capacitors - This week's HOT LIST - E-procurement saves time and money -- big-time - Survey says: global sourcing has come of age END-OF-QUARTER OPPORTUNITY Right now you can pick up inventory at below-contract pricing because many companies are rushing to unload excess materials before the end of the quarter, advises Juergen Seeger, a memory buyer in PartMiner's office near Stuttgart. (A PartMiner sales rep would be happy to help you find what you're looking for -- see contact information below the Hot List.) As for his memory specialty, Seeger predicts that prices will continue to fall steadily during the second quarter. "Buyers are ordering in short cycles," he said. "No one is keeping inventory because they know prices will drop even further." MORE THAN YOU WANTED TO KNOW ABOUT CAPACITORS The FaradNet Web site is a massive compilation of information about capacitors -- the technology and materials, the many kinds, a glossary of capacitor terminology, who makes them and where you can get them. Published by Tyra Buczkowski, the site has listings for more than 1,500 capacitor companies and more than 690 distributors and factory reps worldwide. Find catalogs of parts and test equipment -- and search a vast listing of technical literature. Love to talk caps? There is a bulletin board for people like you. Aberdeen expects e-procurement market growth to more than $9 billion in sales by 2003. The report detailed benefits of e-procurement in reduced purchase requisition processing expense; reduced purchase requisition processing time; decreased "maverick" spending; lowered prices of goods paid; and reduced inventory expense. Based on these findings, Aberdeen estimates that an average mid-size organization can expect to save almost $2 million per year through automation in process and reduced product costs. The full report, including quantitative and qualitative data from end users and analysis of the important features and differentiators in e-procurement systems, is available at Aberdeen's Web site.
