Just another example of a screwed-up legal system.  

Proof that there _are_ cases where the evidence should be allowed to stand on 
it's own merit regardless of a victim's 'desire to testify'.

Once past that hurdle, the perp no longer has a hold over the victim, as the 
case will progress based upon the facts and evidence.

As one party in the story stated, We consider the victim 'dead at the outset', 
and proceed from there.
