Subj : Rebuilding Battery Packs To : Matt Mc_carthy From : Elvis Hargrove Date : Tue Oct 03 2000 03:11 am -> After the initial CRACK, there's not much left in the zapper, unless -> your model has the B+ permanently connected. Mine had a two position -> switch, Charge - Zap. I used to charge the Zapacitor with a push button, but simplified it to just using a low current source permanently wired across the cap. Works just as good and takes less hands to run it. -> After a few years though, I gave that up and went to direct zapping -> from a 12V car battery. You gotta wipe that cable FAST and FIRM -> though, as it tries to weld itself to the cell, and they HEAT _very_ -> fast that way!!! I've done that under duress myself. Y'need some sort of current limit after the initial surge though. I've used as big as 150Kufd @5 volts in a pinch and believe me THAT'LL burn out a short! ^..^ --- FidoPCB v1.5 beta-'j' * Origin: Personal Freedom is NEVER really FREE! (1:397/6.2) .
