Subj : Lawn Equipment To : ALL From : JIM HOLSONBACK Date : Wed Jun 27 2001 07:40 am Hello, ALL. I have some old gas-powered 2-cycle lawn equipment here. Homelite chainsaw, string trimmers by John Deere and Toro. All are kinda like me, old, but still working (at least sort of, pending a few maintenance items). :-). Most of this old equip. calls for 32:1 mix gas to oil. Nowadays at places like Home Depot and Lowes, the only oil available is pre-proportioned for a 50:1 mix. One sales/service place here, while putting a new chain on the Homelite saw, advised me to use the newer 50:1 oil in my old chainsaw, saying it would work OK and produce less smoke. But, I'm a bit skeptical, as older stuff may have had wider tolerance bearings for the motor, and require more/heavier oil in the mix, perhaps with a higher resulting viscosity. Example of what is confounding my confusion - - label on the the John Deere string timmer calls for 32:1 MIX with JD oil, but 16:1 mix with some other oils. Surely someone out there knows about this issue. - - - JimH. .... Inquiring minds want to know. - Bubba --- MultiMail/MS-DOS v0.32 * Origin: Try Our Web Based QWK: DOCSPLACE.ORG (1:18/140) .
