LG> Hi Carol! CS> JUst wondering if this place was used. I connected and waited 2 CS> weeks... It's use is sporadic. Mostly due to my lack of promotion of its use. I'm not sure if that's a reflection of a more growing awareness of TCP/IP in the Fido community, thus a lower need for this echo... Or whether it's a reflection of the general drop in techically oriented people participating in Fido. In addition, my own involvment in "TCP/IP issues" has dropped significantly in the past year or so. I did just read moments ago, though, in a message sent a couple of weeks ago, that Cisco has announced addition of IPv6 support to IOS. I imagine if that has the expected effect of increasing IPv6 implementations, that we might pick up some discussions in this echo about IPv6. The end of January we had a really short thread here on the existence of IPv6, but there wasn't much to add at that time. Most computer operating systems are now providing support, but because Cisco was not shipping support in IOS, there was very little adoption, or motivation for adoption. It remains to be seen whether there will be now. My position still is that the actual occurrence of real IPv4 addresses in use is levelling off, if not declining, as a result of increased use of firewalls and private addressing. Of course, the counter argument to that, and a valid one, concerns wireless devices. What's not yet been shown, though, is whether there's actually going to be a significant market interest in having wireless connectivity to every possible thing in the world. --- * Origin: lawrence@eforest.net | The Enchanted Forest (1:106/6018) .
