I downloaded a file (200k) in DOS (epppd + HE>> tcpport +conex) over ppp. It was a bit slow, but it worked. The combination of `epppd + tcpport + conex' seems to only work well with a fast enough processor. Michel Samson had extremely mixed results when using his slower 8088 system but much better results on his `386SX. HE>> tried FTP, but my password was not accepted, perhaps because I HE>> have not been validated yet (I left a message with the sysop). HE>> I'm not sure why he uses port 22. One BBBS used "8080" as the port number. Confusing eh? HE> Password still not accepted by ftp server. No response yet from HE> sysop. HE>> The next thing I should try, is to use conex (my DOS terminal HE>> program) to dialup my local FreeNet and see if I can do zmodem HE>> over telnet from there. That seems to be the option that may HE>> work in your case. I'll let you know. When a working kermit protocol is available it will usually upload and download to the same BBS while zmodem seems to download but only occasionally upload properly. Even people in the Linux echo complain that they have problems uploading with zmodem via telnet. There is no obvious reason _why_ zmodem should not work better than it does other than the range of possible settings and a misconfigured zmodem at the BBS side of the transfer. Since FTP seems to be a `canned' protocol for the owner of the BBS to setup as an FTP server (they can't mess it up) I am of the opinion that BBS should use FTP transfers when the software is available and users of BBS via telnet will just have to accept that the more difficult to setup protocols won't always work. FTP transfers are close enough to zmodem speed that with newer faster connect rates few will miss the old direct dialup protocols and all will be as before. 8) > > , , > o/ Charles.Angelich \o , > <| AngelFirecom |> __o/ > / > USA, MI < \ __\__ ___ * ATP/16bit 2.31 * ....
