Password still not accepted by ftp server. No response yet from sysop.

Some more testing.

dialup to local FreeNet (FreePort menu)
       - telnet to bbs - zmodem download failed
       - telnet to 2nd FreeNet - zmodem download failed
                               - kermit download successful

dialup to unix (BSD) shell account at ISP
       - telnet to bbs - zmodem download failed
       - telnet -8 to bbs - zmodem download successful
       - telnet to bbs, set binary - zmodem download successful
