Most still use zmodem, etc., but some are using FTP. (Based on my own experience and for my own use, I find FTP is better, but I'd just as soon not get into that argument again. It's been beaten to death.) In any case, while Pony's Corral *recommends* FTP, X/Y/Zmodem are still available. I downloaded a file (200k) in DOS (epppd + tcpport +conex) over ppp. It was a bit slow, but it worked. I tried FTP, but my password was not accepted, perhaps because I have not been validated yet (I left a message with the sysop). I'm not sure why he uses port 22. The next thing I should try, is to use conex (my DOS terminal program) to dialup my local FreeNet and see if I can do zmodem over telnet from there. That seems to be the option that may work in your case. I'll let you know. ws> nothing about using FTP from a PC, or about TELNET only BBSes. I use one of the few remaining local Fidonet bbs's (Maximus) as much as I can. Currently, it does not carry this echo, so I telnet here (Mach2) to set up my echos, but use FTP to transfer my QWK packets. Howard Eisenberger Ottawa, Canada ....
