Subj : FTP TCP/IP To : WINSTON SMITH From : CHARLES ANGELICH Date : Fri Sep 01 2000 07:08 am 1230d29b916c tcpip Hello Winston - CA>> If the BBS you are calling is not physically connected to you by CA>> a cable/wire, then it is a 'dialup' and not an intranet. WS> I dial up the server via telephone. The server is "on the cable" WS> but the cable doesn't run to my house. The server holds the WS> domain name table and provides the commands RLOGIN and TELNET. This sounds like a shell account. Are you using a normal terminal app to dialin to your ISP (server)? If you are, then you won't have the option to use whatever FTP software you want to use. With a shell account you have to use what is installed at the server. WS> The last leg of the data path is my dial up modem. WS> Thanks for the services list! You're welcome. WS> I'll see if I can do something less complicated like get the time WS> or finger the sysop.... It is a good idea to use those to test a setup/connect before doing anything else. If those won't work then there is no point in attempting anything complicated. 8\ > > , , > o/ Charles.Angelich \o , > <| AngelFirecom |> __o/ > / > USA, MI < \ __\__ --- * ATP/16bit 2.31 * ....
