Subj : Chattanooga, etc. To : THARIUS From : Daryl Stout Date : Tue Jun 28 2005 06:12 pm T>I mentioned it because if you were interested in a sample yard on your >prototype's network, Holiday Inn now owns the Chatenooga Union Station, and >iirc they have a heck of a mountain line right nearby, lots of good features >to pick and choose from. I wondered who owned that now. I knew that it originally was the Hilton Inn. The last time I was in the area was when my Dad took a Tenneseee Valley Railroad Fall Foliage Steam Excursion on the old Norfolk and Western Class J 611 Steam Locomotive. However, I heard awhile back that the only "active" steam engines right now are the ones with Union Pacific (844 and 3985)...as it has gotten too expensive, insurance liability wise, for any of the others to run. I also heard that the Frisco 1522 was also re-retired to the National Museum of Transport near St. Louis recently. The Arkansas Railroad Museum, near Pine Bluff, Arkansas (about 40 miles southeast of Little Rock), has their 819 Steam Engine, but I don't know if it'll ever run again...it made several excursions in years past, though. --- þ OLX 1.53 þ More Weather and Trains Info: www.wx1der.com/trn.htm þ Synchronet þ The Thunderbolt BBS wx1der.dyndns.org .
