XML is overhyped and overused.  Many times it doubles and triples the size of 
the file and could have been done with less work and less CPU cycles in a 
better format.

XML has its uses.  I really don't think this is one of them.

Rendering is not more consistent.  That only comes when the browser makers 
actually stict to the standards instead of inventing their own proprietary 
ones.

And XML is not very backwards compatible.

How do you figure?  Forced tag closing adds to the code :)

In this application, I do not see the need.
