The rules are well defined, it can be parsed/serviced via an xml parser more easily... and, as said above, cross-browser rendering is more consistant. And, actually it is less bloat, because the parsing rules are easier to enforce... it's html's lack of restrictions (tag closing) that causes most of the bloat in the browser's parsing/rendering.. -- Michael J.
